Educational Lectures, Workshops, and Workgroups
It is my distinct pleasure serving the Atlanta community as a Psychotherapist, Consultant, Mentor, Lecturer, and Teacher. I admire and value each and every Client in my private practice, past and present, as well as those under my care in other facilities and settings. The Clinical Staff at MARR Men's Recovery Center, the First Presbyterian of Atlanta Woman's Shelter, the Stephens Ministers at Peachtree Presbyterian, and the Mental Health Encouragers at First Baptist Church of Atlanta offer outstanding care and healing those suffering from a variety of issues. Associating with these dynamic and driven people is as much educational for me as rewarding. Lecturing, workshops, and workgroup are ways of serving and giving something positive back to the community where I profit. Various organizations throughout the Atlanta, in mental health, health care, and business communities, have asked me to share my knowledge and understanding of mental health, relationships, and personal development. These are three of the most requested presentations. Basically, these are my notes cleaned up a little for presentation. Should you have further interest on any topic, please e-mail me with your questions or comments. Reflections on mental health: Answers to the question of "am I normal?" [Link to the Reflections Page]
This popular lecture addresses this basic question that all of us ponder at one time or another. In our discussion, we contemplate the basic questions of mental health: what is normalcy, what are dysfunctional behaviors, and what is impairment. The significant lesson of this lecture is that we must be available to feel the full range of emotions in order to have a complete human experience. The inability to feel a full range of emotions is either the core of dysfunction and impairment or a sign of organic damage. Therefore, we cannot label our emotions are either 'good' or 'bad'; rather, describe them as 'energizing' or 'de-energizing'. The impact of this reframing is significant for our 'normalcy' and our self-esteem. The general questions addressed in this interactive lecture are:

The Cycle of Mental Health [Link to the Cycle Page]The Cycle of Mental Health is a fundamental lecture on basic psychology. Humans are "hard wired" to gather and process information prior to any emotional experiences. Emotions arise from our thoughts and beliefs and hold powerful influences upon our behaviors. Because we are evolved and have been given "free will", we can choose our behaviors in conjunction with or in spite of our emotions. Our behaviors lead to consequences - either 'good' or 'bad' - that are excised on us by other people. Our consequence then reinforce our basic belief (thinking) systems; thus, beginning the Cycle again. The general questions addressed in this educational lecture are:
